On March 28, eBay Inc. announced that it had agreed to acquire GSI Commerce for $2.4 billion. Today the company announced the closing of that deal. As you may recall in the original announcement a couple of months ago, eBay CEO John Donahoe said:
“We intend to lead the next generation of commerce innovation. The acquisition of GSI, which offers the most comprehensive integrated suite of online commerce and interactive marketing services available, will significantly strengthen our ability to connect buyers and sellers worldwide. Combined with eBay Marketplaces and PayPal, we believe GSI will enhance our position as the leading strategic global commerce partner of choice for retailers and brands of all sizes.”

In addition to announcing Q4 and fiscal year 2010 operating results today, GSI Commerce announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Fanatics, Inc. today. See full press release here.
The combination of Fanatic’s position in the collegiate sports category with GSI’s existing licensed sports merchandise business – which already includes the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, NASCAR and ESPN – will strengthen GSI’s position in this $15 billion market.

To further expand its fast growing portfolio, GSI Global Marketing Services has acquired ClearSaleing, a leading advertising analytics and attribution management company. The deal allows GMS to expand into new markets with an analytics offering that the early adopters are already using to plan campaigns from dollars to creative.
