The San Francisco 49ers have the distinction of being the first major league professional sports franchise on the West Coast. The 49ers entered professional football in 1946 and were granted a National League franchise in 1950. The ‘Niners have won five Super Bowls - 1982 (XVI); 1985 (XIX); 1989 (XXIII); 1990 (XXIV) and 1995 (XXIX).
